Papua New Guinea:
Madan Medical Clinic
Located on the Madan Coffee and Tea Plantation, the Madan Clinic serves the 300 plus plantation workers as well as approximately 5,000 people living in the communities around the plantation.
In 2008 the Clinic logged over 10,000 patient visits. The clinic prioritizes the health of women and children emphasizing antenatal care and immunizations for the children. In 2008, the nurses at Madan Health clinic vaccinated over 3000 children.
The Starbucks Foundation has generously donated a solar power system and lab for the clinic.
HIV/AIDS Awareness Initiatives
The Madan Medical clinic is actively involved in educating the communities around the plantation about the causes, preventions and treatments of AIDS.
Nicaragua:
Gaspar Garcia Lavinana Hospital
Rivas, Nicaragua
Dr. Hull and his collegues at Washington Orthopaedic Center in Centralia, Washington, have made multiple trips to the Lavinana Hospital providing orthopaedic training and equipment for the Orthopedic doctors who practice there. They have provided the equipment and training in the internal fixation of fractures using the techniques developed by SIGN International in Richland, Washington. Dr. Hull and his collegues have personally funded this project.
Medical Clinics in Rural Nicaragua
Dr. Hull has organized four trips to Nicaragua providing medical clinics in the rural, underserved coffee areas of Nicaragua. These trips have been in cooperation with the Ministry of Health in Nicaragua with assistance from the Red Cross and the SOPPEXCCA coffee cooperative in Jinotega, Nicaragua.
